Citizen’s Police Academy
“Excellence Through Cooperative Education”
The next Class begins March 30, 2023. Application Deadline is March 24, 2023
What is a Citizen’s Police Academy?
Have you ever wondered if you have what it takes to be a police officer? Do you think you would have what it takes? What better way to find out and put those skills to the test than joining the Granbury Citizen’s Police Academy!
The purpose of the CPA is to educate attendees so they can make informed judgments about the police department as they become ambassadors of good will to the community. It is also hoped that the training will raise awareness about the tasks and challenges that police officers face on a daily basis and dispel speculation and misconceptions, thereby improving the relationship between the police and the community. In turn, the police get to know the community's feelings and concerns better through the students' interaction and input. It is indeed intended to be a two-way learning experience.
Emphasis is placed on the patrol division as that is the segment of the police department the public most often comes into contact with. Your instructors will be real police officers. They will take you on an accelerated overview during the 30-hour block of instruction designed to teach you of the various operations of the Granbury Police Department such as:
- Crime Prevention
- Criminal Investigations
- Police K-9
- Special Response Team
Instruction in these and other topics will consist of lectures, demonstrations, tours, and hands-on experiences. Students get first-hand exposure to the police department, its personnel and equipment, and can put themselves in officers' shoes.
Hear what previous attendees loved about the Citizen’s Police Academy:
It was very riveting. I learned so much about our Police department & how we as citizens can help. You will not be disappointed. - Angela Parker, Class of 2008
I really liked the role-playing session! Until I did that, I had no idea how stressful it was for the officers on just about every call. It really made me appreciate the officers being able to get called out and remaining calm and aware of their surroundings. - James Ambrose, Class of 2022
My wife and I attended the class of 2013. The academy is a great opportunity to learn about our Police department & their service to the community. It's a fun activity & you get to meet some great folks. Tom & Rhonda Dicicco
