Setting Up City Utilities

The City provides water, electric, sewer, and trash utilities for Granbury residents.

You can verify if your address is serviced by the City of Granbury Utilities, and if you are outside or inside city limits here.

Once you have determined if your address is serviced by the City of Granbury Utilities, then proceed to the New/Disconnect Utility Service page under Utility Administration and follow the instructions to set up your utilities.

Water Utility Checklist

  1. Confirm your water supplier.
  2. Check if you are within city limits and if your supplier is the City of Granbury (you can check by clicking on this map)
  3. Locate your water meter box.
  4. Find/uncover your customer side cutoff valve (some are in the ground near the meter; others are on the wall in the garage or up near the house in a flower bed). This is important to have access to in the event of a leak or if you need to shut the water off for repairs or when you may be away from the property.

Things to Remember

Everything on the residential side of the water meter is customer responsibility.

Everything in the meter box typically belongs to the water supplier, and if the valves, meters, wires, boxes, the homeowner or plumber damages other items, repair costs may be charged.

The City of Granbury and most other suppliers, have a customer portal that you can use to monitor your water usage and check for leaks or high/low usage when away. This can be handy to make sure your irrigation system is working correctly and when you want it to. Also helpful to know if you have any leaks or other issues.

Sewer Utility Checklist

Confirm if you are on city sewer or septic/aerobic

  • If septic or aerobic, ask for the location of the septic tank and drain field or sprinklers, or for a copy of the design as this is important for working in the yard.
  • If on City sewer, locate the cleanouts and make sure they are properly capped. These assist in determining where sewer stoppages are and simplify clearing blockages. The caps prevent rainwater from entering the collection system and causing issues, and prevent debris like sticks, leaves, and toys from falling in them and causing blockages.

By ordinance, the entire sewer service line belongs to the customer, even the portion in the street or ROW, and plumbers need to clear any blockages in the service. If there are repairs needed in the ROW or street, city crews will have to make the repair, but the plumbers need to assist in identifying and locating the issue.

Electric Utility Checklist

  1. Confirm your electric supplier
  2. Find your main disconnect and know how to safely check and use it
  3. Locate your breaker box and make sure it is accessible and that you can safely use it.
