[ARCHIVED] GPD Accepting Applications for Annual Citizen Police Academy

Citizen Police Academy

Interested in learning more about the Granbury Police Department’s roles and responsibilities in our community? The Granbury Police Department’s annual Citizen Police Academy is a free comprehensive course that covers a variety of topics. The 2018 Citizen Police Academy starts on March 22. Applications are due by March 12, and class size is limited.

Beginning March 22, classes are held on Thursday nights from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. for 10 weeks, each week covering a different topic with lectures, demonstrations, tours, and hands-on experiences. Dinner will be provided each night, and attendees will receive a t-shirt and class picture.

The course is designed to give the public a working knowledge of the Granbury Police Department's personnel and policies. The Granbury Citizen Police Academy covers such diverse topics as training, communications, criminal investigations, DWI procedures, juvenile law, and the special response team. Graduates of the Citizen Police Academy are not trained to be police officers.

Citizen Police Academy student applicants must meet eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Applicants must be in good health.
  • Applicants must have a valid driver license.
  • Applicants must have no convictions of a Class B misdemeanor within the past 10 years, and no family violence, Class A misdemeanor, or felony convictions.
  • Applicants must pass a background check.
  • Applicants must be able to fluently read, speak, write and understand the English language.

Those interested in applying for admission to the Granbury Police Department Citizen Police Academy should apply by March 12 at the Granbury Police Department (116 W Bridge St., open 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday). Printable applications are available at www.granbury.org/CPAapplication.
