October Fire Prevention Month

The goal for Fire Prevention Month is to make the public more aware of how fires start, how to prevent them and how to be protected during blazes. However, fire prevention has gone beyond not playing with matches. Today, children and adults can educate themselves about the dangers associated not only with fires, but with natural disasters and household hazards as well.

The Granbury Volunteer Fire Department dedicates the entire month of October to Fire Prevention and will host demonstrations at local schools, daycares and businesses.

Free Smoke Detector Program 

Smoke detectors (also known as smoke alarms) are the cheapest form of life insurance available. 

The Granbury Volunteer Fire Department recommends that you install at least one smoke detector on every level of your home. Even better is one in every bedroom. Smoke detectors are designed to wake you up if a fire starts while you are sleeping.

The Department offers free smoke detectors and replacement batteries to existing detectors to local citizens.

With doctors and other qualified professionals available, why is it important for everyday people to learn about CPR and First-Aid?
The truth is that, while a high-level medical professional is always the best recourse for a patient in need, it is often the first responders who are able to keep the patient in stable condition until help arrives.

Fire Extinguisher Training

Fire extinguishers are the first line of defense people have when a fire occurs in their home or business, and if used correctly, can greatly reduce fire damage and potentially save lives. Along with being a confidence builder for someone who could potentially be put in this situation, proper fire extinguisher training helps ensure people know the correct way to assess a fire situation and how to operate a fire extinguisher.

Station Tours

The Granbury Volunteer Fire Department  welcomes tours of the fire stations and trucks. Station tours last approximately 30 minutes and include viewing a fire engine,  firefighting equipment, fire gear, emergency medical equipment  as well as a short presentation concerning fire safety.
