Granbury Police Department Crime Statistics

Communications & News Releases Posted on September 10, 2024

The Granbury Police Department has released its 2023 crime statistics, highlighting key trends compared to 2022. The report indicates a decrease in several crime categories, including homicide, aggravated assault, other assaults, burglary (of both buildings and homes), arson, forgery, criminal mischief, suicide threats, suicide, DUI/DWI, possession of controlled substances and prescription-only medicines, false alarms and false 911 calls.

However, some categories saw an increase. These include sexual assault, robbery, burglary of motor vehicles, theft, auto theft, DWI intoxication assault, and traffic accidents. Notably, sexual assault cases rose from four to six, and robbery incidents increased from zero to two. Burglary of motor vehicles grew from 26 to 35, while traffic accidents surged from 909 to 1,103.

Theft offenses, which include shoplifting, increased in 2023 to 468 compared to 352 in 2022.  It should be noted that of the 468 offenses, 270 of those offenses were shoplifting cases at Walmart.  “These statistics are important because they reflect real people and lives,” said Granbury Police Chief Mitch Galvan. “While certain crimes against people have risen, which is always a concern, the increases were minimal and still well below average for a city our size.  We are pleased that the overall numbers remain low.”

Chief Galvan also reminded the community that sometimes crime statistics reported as "Granbury" may inaccurately include the larger Granbury-area zip codes rather than just the city limits.
