Update Regarding Testing and Cases in Hood County
A medical clinic in Hood County has reported the first positive COVID-19 test result for a Hood County resident this morning.
Lakeside Physicians offers phone triage and testing for COVID-19 for local residents, and they received a positive test result from earlier this week and reported to Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) this morning, in accordance with CDC and DSHS guidelines.
A Hood County resident in their 50’s was tested on March 23 because he met COVID-19 testing criteria. The patient had respiratory illness symptoms including fever, cough, and congestion, and had recently returned from an overseas cruise. The patient was notified after returning home that another cruise passenger was tested positive for COVID-19, so the patient self-reported, was tested, and sent home with COVID-19 self-isolation guidelines.
The patient is responding to self-care and remains isolated with family members. The patient and family are in daily contact with medical personnel, and they are being treated appropriately based on his symptoms.
Hood County COVID-19 test status update as of 11:00 a.m. today:
Governor Abbott released updated guidelines to hospitals and healthcare facilities on March 24, mandating reporting of all COVID-19 tests performed across the state including private labs, so expect testing numbers across Texas to increase with better tracking and reporting.
For the most current information on COVID-19 guidance for individuals, businesses, and health care facilities, the CDC and DSHS webpages remain the best sources. DSHS updated their website yesterday to include a county-by-county tracking map: https://dshs.texas.gov/coronavirus/
