FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: January 31, 2017
Contact: Bethany Kyle, Public Information Officer, bkyle@granbury.org
Work to install an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system and replace aging water meters throughout the City of Granbury will begin early spring. The project will take approximately one year to complete.
In early 2016, City staff reviewed and analyzed water meters and found that there are several thousand existing meters in the City that are diminishing in accuracy due to age. City Council voted to authorize staff to facilitate action for replacement and upgrade of the City's water meter and leak detection infrastructure at the April 5, 2016 City Council Meeting.
The system that is going into place, AMI, is an integrated system of smart meters, communications networks, and data management systems that enables two-way communication between utilities and customers. The AMI system will not only increase the accuracy of the water being sold, but will provide savings in water and energy, and will support enhanced customer service. There is no charge to the customer for water meter replacement.
The project is fully funded by the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund and administered by the Texas Water Development Board.
Aqua Metric will be the company implementing the new system. For more information about Aqua Metric, visit their website at aqua-metric.com.
Any additional questions regarding the project should be directed to Utility Billing Manager Jason Barber at (817)573-1114.
