Granbury Achieves Improved ISO Rating

Communications & News Releases Posted on December 05, 2024

The City of Granbury and the Granbury Volunteer Fire Department are pleased to announce a significant improvement in the city’s Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating. Following a recent comprehensive audit, Granbury’s classification will improve from a “3/3Y” to a distinguished “2/2Y.”

This new classification places Granbury among the top six percent of communities nationwide and the top 14 percent in Texas, regardless of whether their fire departments are paid or volunteer—proof of the City’s commitment to public safety and excellence.

ISO ratings range from 1 (the highest) to 10 (the lowest), with scores reflecting various factors. While the fire department’s capabilities—including response times, equipment, and training—play a critical role, the City’s infrastructure also contributes significantly. Factors such as water supply, emergency communication systems, building code enforcement, fire inspections, and public education programs are integral to the evaluation.

The improved rating not only underscores enhanced safety and preparedness but may also result in reduced insurance premiums for residents and businesses. Additionally, businesses may be more likely to locate to a city with a good ISO rating due to the lower commercial insurance costs, which can boost economic development. The new classification will take effect on April 1, 2025.

“We are proud to share this milestone with our community,” said Chris Coffman, Granbury City Manager. “This achievement reflects the unwavering dedication of our City Staff, our volunteer firefighters, the steadfast support of city leadership, and the strong partnerships within our community. It is the result of continued investments in personnel, tools, training, and collaboration.”
