Add “Granbury City Park” to the list of local places you can play Pickleball. In response to residents’ requests, the City Parks and Recreation Department has added pickleball court lines and a portable pickleball net to the basketball court on North Park Drive, next to Dana Vollmer Municipal Swim Center.

At an “I’d Like to Speak to the Manager, Please” session last year with City Manager Chris Coffman, pickleball enthusiasts asked about the possibility of adding pickleball courts to City parks. The City located a suitable space and purchased the portable net.

The basketball/pickleball multi-use court remains first come, first served. The court cannot be reserved. Basketball players will roll the Pickleball net to the side of the basketball court before their games begin. The multi-use court is open from dawn to dusk.

Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the nation, combining many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong, according to USA Pickleball. Until now, their nearest “Places 2 Play” are at the Hood County YMCA and the Pecan Plantation Activity Center.
