Water Distribution and Meters

Program Description

The function of the Water Distribution & Meter Division is to maintain, repair, and rehabilitate the city’s water distribution system. This system is composed of water storage tanks, high pressure pumps, 148 miles of water mains, 2,837 valves, 1,075 fire hydrants, and accurate meter reading of over 10,000 water and electric meters.

The purpose of the distribution system is to deliver safe drinking water to the public for human consumption and provide adequate pressure for fire protection. The meter department handles new service meter installation, connections, disconnections of service and water meter repairs.

Performance Objectives

  • Repair water breaks and leaks in a timely manner
  • Replace deteriorated and undersized water mains
  • Maintain the city’s fire hydrants
  • Respond to citizen service requests in a courteous and timely manner
  • Respond to line locates in a timely manner
  • In every aspect, we want to deliver exceptional service to customers in a timely manner.
